Curtain Poles – A Home Makeover by Transforming Your Curtain Accessories
Are you passionate about home improvement and interior design? Is your home desperately in need of a little updating or even a major overhaul but on a limited budget? There are plenty of quick, easy and most importantly, relatively inexpensive ways in which you can completely transform a room, multiple rooms or even your whole house.
Let’s just have a quick look at one of these ways and highlight an area that is often overlooked and yet can make such a difference to the appearance of your home…curtain poles! Yes, the humble curtain pole, often ignored during an interior design process, but which can, if handled correctly, change the face of a room.
Most rooms either have curtain poles or curtain tracks across the top of the windows, holding the curtains in place and very often they have been there for years and not even replaced when new curtains were hung! Can anything be done with your existing curtain poles until you are ready to buy new ones? Here is something you could do in a few easy steps:
- Remove the curtain pole, holdbacks and any other fittings and accessories.
- Place all the parts onto a dustsheet (or old bed sheet). If the weather is nice you can do it outside, if not, then the garage or a shed will be fine.
- Pick up some spray paint from a DIY store, (you may be able to use some left over from previous jobs.) Choose your colour carefully in order to coordinate with your existing or planned colour scheme. Metal spray paints tend to be more effective even on a wooden pole.
- Ensure you have adequate ventilation before using any paint. Open windows or doors before continuing.
- Spray evenly over the curtain pole and its accessories, following the instructions on the can carefully.
- Allow one side of the pole to dry before attempting to turn and paint the other side.
- Once all areas of the pole and accessories have been painted, ensure everything is totally dry before continuing.
- Apply another coat if required, repeating the steps above.
- Leave overnight to ensure dry and that the paint has settled they way you intended.
- Finally, re-hang all the fittings and the curtain poles and prepare to be amazed at the transformation. Your curtain poles look great and have had a real impact on the room!
